Community Policing in Brent

AG
10 Jan 2026

Sadiq Khan promised more neighbourhood police officers. In reality, residents across Brent see fewer officers on their streets, rising anti-social behaviour and crime occurring at predictable times with little targeted policing.

Safer Neighbourhood Teams are overstretched and routinely moved away from the areas they are meant to serve. Meanwhile, Labour-run Brent Council has failed to invest properly in effective CCTV in known crime hotspots.

The Brent Liberal Democrats believe this approach is failing residents.

Community safety must be rebuilt, with visible policing, local accountability and prevention at its core.

The Problem

Residents across Brent are experiencing:

  • A lack of visible police presence
  • Crime and anti-social behaviour concentrated at predictable times and locations
  • Safer Neighbourhood officers regularly redeployed away from their areas
  • Weak community relationships due to constant officer turnover
  • Inadequate CCTV coverage in crime hotspot areas
  • Residents feeling ignored and unsafe

Promises alone do not keep communities safe. Without action, these problems will continue to spread.

Our Proposal

The Brent Liberal Democrats call for a clear reset in how community safety is delivered.

Deliver Real Community Policing

The Labour Mayor of London must deliver on his promise of more community police officers for Brent, ensuring they are visible and locally based — not moved elsewhere to plug gaps.

Targeted Patrols Where and When Crime Happens

Police patrols must be focused on hotspot areas at the times crime is most likely to occur, using local data and resident reports to seek to prevent crime before it happens.

Protect Safer Neighbourhood Teams

Safer Neighbourhood officers should be dedicated to their local areas, not routinely pulled away to other parts of the borough or beyond. Strong neighbourhood policing depends on officers knowing their communities.

Invest in CCTV to Deter Crime

The Labour-run Brent Council must install and maintain effective CCTV in crime hotspots to deter criminals, support enforcement and prosecutions when necessary.

Our Targets

We will campaign for:

  • A firm commitment to restore community policing in Brent
  • Increased visible patrols at peak crime times
  • Stable, fully staffed Safer Neighbourhood Teams
  • New and upgraded CCTV in hotspot areas

Petition: Bring Back Community Policing in Brent

Every resident deserves to feel safe in their neighbourhood. It’s time for Labour to act and bring community policing back to Brent.
